I had a buddy show me a picture of a Sunbird Formula sitting in a wrecking yard. After some hunting, we found it was at Ayotte's Used Auto Parts in Oxford, ME. I do a lot of travelling in the NY, NJ, and New England area for work and had a trip to the area. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to stop into this yard to see if the car was in salvageable condition. The car looked pretty good from the initial picture. Unfortunately, the interior was completely destroyed, the bottoms of the doors were rotted away on the inside, and (worst) someone hacked out the front suspension.
The story on this yard is that the father started putting cars in the field across from the house in 1968. There didn't seem to be any real organization on the cars but it was pretty obvious that the cars here had been here for a very long time in most cases. I hunted down as many of the H-Bodies as I could and will post them below. As sad as it was to see these cars in this shape, it was still very interesting. I had an enjoyable three-hours walking around this place and seeing all that I could. I am sure I missed some good stuff too and will need to try to get back this fall.
