Wrecking Yard H-Bodies

Postby RedFiveKBS » Wed Sep 14, 2016 9:36 pm

I had a buddy show me a picture of a Sunbird Formula sitting in a wrecking yard. After some hunting, we found it was at Ayotte's Used Auto Parts in Oxford, ME. I do a lot of travelling in the NY, NJ, and New England area for work and had a trip to the area. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to stop into this yard to see if the car was in salvageable condition. The car looked pretty good from the initial picture. Unfortunately, the interior was completely destroyed, the bottoms of the doors were rotted away on the inside, and (worst) someone hacked out the front suspension. :(

The story on this yard is that the father started putting cars in the field across from the house in 1968. There didn't seem to be any real organization on the cars but it was pretty obvious that the cars here had been here for a very long time in most cases. I hunted down as many of the H-Bodies as I could and will post them below. As sad as it was to see these cars in this shape, it was still very interesting. I had an enjoyable three-hours walking around this place and seeing all that I could. I am sure I missed some good stuff too and will need to try to get back this fall.

Saw the tail of one snake as I pranced away like a little girl. Hate snakes.

Saw a ground hog too. They dug a lot of holes under the cars to make their homes. It was a really cool place. I'd like to get back this fall after the leaves come down.

Kevin I am more afraid of spiders, [I know, the irony!] than snakes but if you pranced too slowly I would run you right over! Harry the big sissy!

I live in Florida. Snakes and spiders are part of everyday life...no big deal.

What's scary is all those cars sitting on the ground rotting away.

I'm ambivalent towards snakes but hate spiders. I'm not afraid of them, I just hate the eightleggedMFSOBs. The bigger the spider the greater the hatred. :kill:
