Save or Scrap

Postby Sid » Thu Oct 20, 2016 7:33 pm

I've had these sitting around for quite a while and I'm not sure if they are of use to anyone or ready for the scrap yard.
They came off a Vega. Fronts are 13 x 6 and the rears are 13 x 8.
Please let me know what you think.

Thanks, Phil.

Phil I too have some older 13" "Mags" that I posted here and not even a single remark about them, I paid decent money for them and made the kids ride in an overcrowded car to bring them home from our vacation [they were 4+ hours away but not far off of our route] I can't bring myself to throw out the $100+ I spent on these but they are taking up valuable space and if scrap aluminum goes up they to may go for a one way ride to the pop can factory. The problem with 13" rubber and the dwindling supply of original brake parts that makes buying tires if you find some a scary proposition. I will watch this with enthusiasm as I too need some direction Harry of course I can't find that ad, and the search function is on break, again! so I made a new post: viewtopic.php?f=5&p=268021#p268021

That's a very nice size 13" wheel if someone has tires to fit them.

Damn if you weren't in Florida I'd take them, they'd be perfect for the Chevette I'll be starting on this winter....

I wouldn't scrap them but I never get rid of anything 'somebody could use this some day.....'

Those look like uni-lug wheels, so they should fit the Chevette too.

Unilug doesn't necessarily fit metric patterns. Usually those were 4 x 4 and 4 x 4 1/2.

This is my problem. I hate to scrap something good, but I don't have a use for them. If someone can use these and can arrange a way to get them, you can have them free of charge.

I can't see myself leaving them at the scrap yard.

I thought I remembered offset washers to fit standard an metric applications. Although finding new washers for either would be difficult.

Sid if you don't get any bites repurpose them, trailer tires for a long haul trailer for those far away trips, or the Power Tour, or Drag week sort of thing... 13" trailer tires are still available as are 4X4" trailer hubs. Those would make part of a cool coffee table for the man cave. Your Car shows us you have the creativity for this job without breaking a sweat! :th: Harry

hmm, I'm gonna have to look around, I thought you could still buy 13 inch tires just not ones with white letters..... or really wide street tires. that said, I do already have 13 inch mags on one car and will probably jump to 15's on the other

Beakerz you can still get 175 and 185 tires with only a little whining and crying, and the odd 195 shows up, but these are commuter tires not even close to a performance tire [read this as hard as a rock] and likely too little traction for anything beyond the 110HP of stock, and yes black wall. If you want to do burnouts and not go anywhere these maybe ok, there are still slicks available but these are mainly for lightweight sports cars well under #1500 and of course there are "Drag Radials. Harry https://www.summitracing.com/int/search ... 4294920858 and here are the sport car tires http://www.avonmotorsport.com/motorspor ... dial-slick

for what its worth Harry, on your Avon site there are wider 'road-worthy' wide(r than 175) 13 inch tires ..

and these guys in Virginia appear to have a hell of a selection of wide racing and road 13's ..

and these guys in Illinois ...

Well SS some of those, while street legal aren't really street tires, the Proxes/R888 are a DOT tire, but for racing, like "Drag Radials for straight line guys they are to meet a certain class set of rules and they are expensive, my brothers Drag Radials lasted one summer about 5000 miles and were about $350 each so $700 for rear tires for one barely used summer. I am not "Frugal" like many of our "H-Brothers" and that is way more than I would spend for that! And I am more worried about the lack of presently available brake rotors for our platform than the skins shortage. One way or the other it will shake loose and then we can decide/or have decided for us, which way we want/have to have our cars to be. Now I am a purist at heart and I love the look of the "Rally II" wheels on my car and have since first sight but I am afraid my car will be 15 or 17 inch wheeled in the future when my supply dies. Harry
