repainting

Postby 1oldmf » Sun Oct 30, 2016 11:42 am

not ready to do it yet, but researching.........

when painting the front facia, is a flex agent added to the paint ?
can you use 'THAT" paint to do the rest of the car?
or does it affect gloss, etc?

front currently has many stars, spider webs in it, (annoying)
no idea if anything was added when previous owner had it painted.

It may depend upon the type of paint you use. However, when I did mine in lacquer I did add the flex agent to the paint and clear coat. I would suggest contacting the paint manufacturer and ask them for their recommendation. Not sure if there is any negative to using the paint with flex over the rest of the car. Paint has changed a lot over the years, it is best to speak directly to the manufacturer.

X2 What Clyde said! Yes paint has changed a lot in the last ten years and most of my painting experience is 10/15 years older than that. Flex agent used to affect the colour a little in some colours/paints but again the cost and lack of expertise prevented me from finding an answer to that years ago. Harry

Talked to a professional painter about this. He did not recommend adding flex agent to the metal parts but did say it could be done.

thanks for the info.

will probably have a shop do it, as my luck, overspray on the black car would not make me happy.
