5 Speeds

Postby ol55 » Sat Nov 26, 2016 9:12 pm

My '76 had the T-50. My S10 had a 5 speed (world class?)which I still have. The newer Camaros had a five speed and my '94 GMC truck has a five speed. Are any of these interchangable? Any a bolt in to replace the T-50 in my '76 Vega?

Thanks,
Larry

Bolt patterns to the bellhousing should be the same.
Lengths are different, so a custom crossmember would be needed for each trans.

I did a full writeup on replacing a T-50 with a T5 from an 86 camaro. It should be in the transmission tech section. Well worth the effort.

Thanks for the info. Is the S10 considered a T5? The trans I have is a 2wd with a mechanical speedo ('86?). I like that you were able to use the T50 boot for the conversion.

Thanks,

Depends on the year and engine. Early S-10 T5 has a very different shifter position - too close to the engine for a Monza if my memory is correct. Somewhere on the web is a story on how to build a hybrid T5 with S-10 and camaro T5 parts.

I thought that write up was on the "Mother Page" of this site but with a quick look I couldn't find that answer, but still lots of interesting reading and information: http://www.h-body.org/library/hbodyfaq/index.html Make sure you peruse the links on the left and "Enjoy" Harry
