I did a quick search, now I'm at the question stage. I'm curious if a compass was offered in any of the h body years. Thanks in advance.

Harry, I know they are pricy NOS, I paid around $50 for my GM version NOS in a cracked case. I thought that was to much money for a lowly Pontiac, you Chevy guys must have a lot more $$$$ LOL!!!!!

Try buying one for a late 30's early 40's GM car....... They were going for close to $2,000 a few years ago. I have one in my 60 Impala and 62 Biscayne and I paid around $700 each for them, now they have reproductions for about half of that price. These things will only go up in price as time goes on. It all comes down to how bad do you want it. When I bought my Cosworth I bought one for it. to be honest I don't care for the way it looks on the H body cars, it appears to be too big on the small dash windshield area.

this one looks to be priced very fair

Makes me think of the stuff my Dad had through the years. He was a Chevy dealer's parts manager. I remember the under the dash tissue dispenser, compasses, all kinds of stuff. I still have a 23 channel GM CB radio around here somewhere.

In regard to your original question compasses were offered on all models up until the 80's when the advent of the digital instrument panels deemed them to be obsolete. By the mid=60's the compasses became corporate and instead of the individual logo for each line of manufacture they went to the one size fit's all with the GM logo. For the most part Dinsmore was the subcontractor that manufactured all of the compasses for years.
They are pretty cool, and part of an era long gone now.

Funny I was driving home the other day from the store, and it seemed to be taking alot longer than normal, so I looked up at the built in rear view mirror compass in my truck and I was headed in south instead of north..They come in very handy when forget where I am going and I remember I have one//

Compared to other GM Compass's I have seen for sale that link is a good deal, but it does have much simpler packaging than the earlier ones and would not look as good sitting on a collectors shelf!
