NEW, Reproduction 13" tires

Postby fyrftr50 » Sun Apr 02, 2017 10:40 pm

Mike Strangel on Facebook has got both Firestone and BF Goodrich interested in reproducing 13" tires for a group purchase. They will bring out the old molds and make 500 tires if we can get enough people to jump at it. He is currently holding a poll, which manufacturer, what size and how many would you all be interested in?

I don't care about brand, whatever the majority wants is fine with me, I would buy at least 1 full set of 4, more depending on final cost. But size, 195/70R13 is my preference.

This may be the only shot we have at getting NEW tires for our H-Bodies. These are not old tires found in a warehouse, but new tires, made this year, if we can get the up front commitment.

I agree with 195/70-R13, any manufacturer is fine with me, but they must be RWL or there is no sense in doing them. I will buy 4 if they are RWL.

I'm in for 4 depending on price. But in the mean time, what's wrong with this place other than they are 185/70-13s

You answered your own question, they are 185s and no Raised White Letter tires.

Yeah, I just bought a set of Falken's two years ago at Discount Tire. 185/70-13, but blackwalls. Lot's of 13" out there, but all are blackwalls. My car, being a Firenza, would have normally come from the factory with blackwalls, but the person who ordered it was wise, and upgraded to the RWL tires. So the blackwalls are technically correct for my car, but to match the window sticker (and to look better), I really need a set of RWLs.

Is there a time frame for how long the poll will be open? a week? a month?
I don't do Facebook so if someone could relay my info I'd appreciate it... 4 tires.. possibly 8 if they aren't crazy expensive.

As far as I know, there is no time frame. We're thinking of some way to keep an online tally, something central since I know many are not facebook users.

500 Tires is alot of tires, how are they going to handle the logistics?? Does BF Goodrich need them to be prepayed before they are made?, are they going to drop ship them to each buyer?? or is this guy going to have 500 tires show up in a trailer at his house?? I dunno sounds like a pipe dream..But never say never I guess.

Back when I bought my NOS P205/60R-13's RWL I "VERY FOOLISHLY" only ordered 4 :bang: :dunce: If "Starfire" hadn't ended up with an odd/mismatched tire that happened to match my off-branded tire I wouldn't have a matching spare. I know you think so? But imagine your tooling along a highway towards your regions biggest car show, and all of a sudden a gust of wind pulls a piece of sheet metal from the back of that P/U in front of you, and with nowhere to go, you have to run it over or crash. So now your brand new unreplaceable tires, as they were all accounted for at the "Bulk Buy" and you will for the rest of those tires life have a mismatched black wall on the right front :cuss: . So if I may suggest, buy 5 and never need it [the extra] and just rotate it through the line up. Good Insurance. I currently have two sets 1 RWL and one ~matching black wall set [all the same brand just different vintage and two of that five have a corner repair good enough for low speed -30mph maybe cruising downtown stop and go(ish) and sitting still {shows}]. I hope I have helped you all out with this thought. Harry
