A Vega on V8TV

Postby kgroombr » Fri Apr 07, 2017 10:31 pm

First time I saw a Vega on this channel. Looks nice but sounds like it has been butchered with a V8.

The whole idea of this display of vehicles is the "Day 2" concept; highlighting the modifications done to performance cars as soon as they were purchased. Back in the day, a musclecar buyer didn't wait for the warranty to run out or the loan to be paid off before making upgrades for both performance and looks. Wheels, tires, shifter, headers, carb, gears, you name it, it was done right away.
The orange Vega shown is supposed to be a real Yenko V8 conversion. "butchered"? No. Upgraded? Oh, yeah.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

I like the way so many folks reference a Yenko V8 Vega. Yenko never put a V8 in a Vega, they sold a turbocharger kit for the 4-cylinder. My reference is the book, Yenko: The Man, The Machines, The Legend by Bob McClurg. Just like folks who make a Yenko Vega "clone", who use the Camaro side stripe, although the one in the video uses the correct stripe.

I'll get off the soap box now.

I never heard of a Day 2 car before but I guess I had a couple of them, mostly just wheels, tires and pinstripes. My '72 Vega wagon and '76 Monza 4cyl. Spyder.

Why would someone pay extra for a new yenko, which from what I understand the engine upgrade and some cosmetics and then pull out the engine and replace it when they get home..
