Driveshaft loop project

Postby kenimpzoom » Sat Apr 22, 2017 7:19 pm

I bought a driveshaft loop kit from summit and then duh quickly realized the torque arm is in the way. :bang:

So instead, I welded one half of the supplied loop to the torque arm. :th:

I will let you know how it works out.

I too think/thought that approach makes real good sense, but I have not checked the rule book, I have a suspicion that I have seen something that in the back of my mind is telling me that it needs to be attached to the chassis/cage, or body. So if you plan some slicks or just plain fast runs at a strip during regular events you may need a perusal of the "Book" of disappointment [rules  ] Harry

I agree, this probably doesnt pass the NHRA rules per say. But for Friday nights at the drag strip, it is better than nothing.

in over 25+ yrs of drag racing,
NEVER have I seen an inspector crawl under a car to inspect a drive shaft loop,
I do not race at major events, just summit series, etc,
so.. if they ask you, "do you have a drive shaft loop"? you can honestly say yes,

now the concern is about your safety,

I have always mounted the loop under the trans Mount, like this somewhat spendy model from Ram Air Restorations.

It works well with the torque arm, but I did have a IHRA inspector say that if I ran 11.99 or faster that style loop would not be legal. But seeing that my car only ran low 13's a loop wasn't required.

Just took a test drive and there were zero issues. Hopefully I wont ever need it.

Track Legal or not it is good insurance and a well crafted execution. :th: Harry
