I see your problem, your Dad put V8 Monza springs in it not knowing 74 Vega control arms had shallow pockets.
The V6 and V8 Monza springs were for the later cars with the deep pocket control arms which have a taller installed height.
Also the Monza bodies are slightly heavier.
Changing to the later deep pocket control arms will get the springs closer to the correct application.
You could try cutting the V8 springs a half coil at a time with a cutoff wheel.
With the 74 control arms I would use the 6490 springs - 77 Astre 2.5 Iron duke 151 w/AC and some V6 H-bodies w/no AC
