Pedals too close together

Postby Browner » Tue Jul 18, 2017 5:14 pm

Has anyone heard of or done anything to relocate the gas and brake pedals more to the left? I drive 2 footed and it tough when the gas pedal is right up against the tunnel and the brake pedal is like 3 inches away. Any ideas out there?

I wear a size 13 shoe, and never found the pedals too close together. I guess you could remove the brake pedal and rebend it a bit to the left. I drive my drag car with 2 feet, but it has aftermarket pedals.

I cut the pad on the brake pedal for an automatic car down to the size of pedal from a stick car, cutting it off on the right side near the gas pedal. I had a pedal from a stick car that I stole the pad off of and put it on the cut down pedal. The pedal from the stick car is even closer to the gas pedal to make room for the clutch pedal.

Yup, and I wear wider shoes than I did when I was young, back then no problem, now I have to be careful which shoes I wear to drive the car, otherwise when my foot comes up off the gas to brake, the shoe catches on the underside of the brake pedal :bang: (it also doesn't help that I put the sound deadener under my carpet, now the carpet on the side of the tunnel is closer to the gas pedal than it would normally be. When I get my seats recovered I'm going to pull out the carpet and take out the sound deadener).

You won't like my suggestion, but I'm going to make it anyway: Train yourself to drive with just one foot. Two-footed driving can lead to some consequences in an emergency situation.

Do you have a brake pedal for an automatic or a stick? The pedal for the automatic is further away from the gas pedal.

While I do not have a solution I will concur that the pedals are close together, especially on a manual trans car. I wear 8 1/2 shoes and often wondered how guys with bigger shoes manage to drive these cars.

See page 3 & 4 of m '72 Kammback thread. Pics on page 3 before and page 4 fixed. Same issue. Got worse with the manual pedal swap...... so I moved the throttle pedal up and right to get better clearance.
my trans tunnel at the firewall was "widened" by the previous owner making the problem even worse.
