Newbie!

Postby Tzelik » Wed Jul 26, 2017 7:08 pm

Hi. I just picked up a 75 Vega GT, engine runs good and it's under 50k miles. I'm new to fiddling with cars, only ever worked on motorcycles. I've read a lot of the posts here but still have some questions and would love advice from people who know Vegas! My previous vehicle was a Dodge pickup and when the transmission died I was looking through the local mechanic's stock of possibilities and loved the look of the Vega. After a ton of reading, I like the car even more. My goal isn't so much a showy or fast car, but a reasonable car for a person who lives two hours from everywhere. My primary question is tires. Looking for comfortable long trip tires with good fuel economy that fit the 13" 4 hole rims. My budget is pretty slim, but I think the Vega is the car for me. Looks muscle, made of steel (as a blacksmith, I love that) and it just fell in my lap right when I needed something.https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMnEHp0PPE9f3iPy1YIyDZUXDcTeeENc0BJj79C

Welcome! Congrats on your new H-body! Your picture isn't working, though.

Welcome to the site,

Unfortunatly the choices in 13 inch tires is not what it was 10 years ago. With the low ground clearance and limited suspension travel on Vega's I like to run a fairly tall side wall and I used to buy 205/60 Cooper Cobra's but they are not being made in that size anymore. It looks like 185/70 is the tallest side wall available now. Unfortunatly I have no experience with the brands that offer that size so I am of no help.

Good luck with your search and let us know what you decide to purchase, and how they work out for you.

Welcome,
Jeff's advice is about all that can be offered for 13 inch tires, the 185/70-13 is a little shorter than stock but not by much, if you can find them 195/70-13 are a little taller. Both sizes should work for you.
