Torque boxing?

I've recently pulled the roll cage out of my Vega. I'm 6'3" and the Halo bar was 2" from my temple, which I didn't care much for, and to be truly NHRA approved I would need a door bar to boot. The car also had been sub framed, but the sub frame stops at the tranny crossmember.
Ive been thinking about adding flat plate from the crossmember forward to the firewall, welding it to the floor to create a sort of torque boxing.
Has anyone done this before? Am I just wasting time and energy? Also, while I'm at it, has anyone done firewall to fender bracing like is found in some of the more modern performance cars?
Thanks
Mike

Can you post some pictures of where your frame rails end ?

The H-body floor is multi layered in the crossmember area, depending on how they attached the rails it should be ok.

Did you remove the whole roll cage or just the halo bar ?
