But bumpers brackets can be swapped and it looks like a darker panel and rivets on top of the trans tunnel.
Maybe it was an auto and someone converted it to a 4 speed.

Thank you, very excited about it. No one knows much history of the car as it has been stored since 1984 and the owner has passed away. The general consensus here seems to be that the tranny has been swapped. The gas tank was also dropped, so we are not sure what the owner was up to. I will investigate further when I get it home (within a few weeks) and post some pics!

Great looking car. Pretty sure it's a '72 though, despite the "Vega by Chevrolet" emblem on the header panel. Besides the Opel transmission, no filler panel for the bumper, and it also has the air cleaner for the Rochester 2bbl carb.

Do you have the VIN number?

Certainly a '73. I did notice that it had a '73 dash panel: the "wood grain" is vertical, compared to the '71-'72's horizontal. Curious that the engine and transmission is a transplant.

And don't forget the front bumper mod although I think that was mentioned earlier. Still a great solid start.
