Any interest in a correct fitting carpet for 75 monza

Postby monzaaddict » Tue Aug 14, 2018 8:55 pm

I have emailed ACC carpet and they seem willing to make a carpet mold for the 75 Monza (Hatch and Coupe). Skyhawk, Starfire. 75 models have a taller transmission tunnel (for rotary engine that was eventually cancelled). The tunnel was lower approximately 3" for the 76 model year. The mold ACC now has is for 76 and up.

Anyone with a 75 will probably eventually need a carpet and I know many of us have made the 76 - 80 work. It would certainly be nice to have one that fits better or at least with less of a headache to get a proper fit. I replaced mine about 3 years ago so I am fine for now but I think it would be great to have that option.

I am going to try to get them to make molds for the rear side carpet pieces and a pattern for the hatch floor carpet. I have a used 75 hatch carpet and the rear side pieces to send to them. The hatch floor carpet seems to have shrunk a bit. They also sound willing to make floor mats in the same pattern as factory if I send templates. They offer carpet options that are more plush than original.

I would be up for a complete properly fitting carpet set, fronts and rear hatch area. While my carpet is not bad, it would be nice to have new.

Are you talking about along the wheel wells, hatch floor, seat back and fold down metal plate or all of above?

i have heard and seen on you tube that the carpets are too big and padding has to be tucked under to get a better fit and a while back i had read from one or our members that the carpets did not go up the firewall behind the gas and brake pedals. biggest problem for all of the car carpets was the way they were shipped. the creases from being in too small of a shipping carton did not want to come out, even after much time in sun or uderr a heat gun. ACC is the only show in town for auto carpets art.

I would definitely be after one. I got a replacement about 6 years ago for mine, don't remember who made it, but it is a pretty poor fit. Still have not installed it yet, just sat it in place once to scope it out.

I would actually like to see a 2 piece carpet. I think that would make it much easier to install. This is the way carpet is in older cars. The problem is you have to get the carpet to sit in the rear seat area because of the way it is molded, once you get that tucked in by the rear seats the front ends up being wherever it is, you can't really move it around. I am sure they are not going to do this, but just saying..........

I just did mine in my Vega and it looks nice BUT I think if you really want it to look perfect you need to get it oversized and have it fitted by a very good experienced upholstery shop, they would slice it in spots and glue it in spots for that perfect look without wrinkles or puckers..

I don't think a e DIYer could make it look as good as a pro who has done it thousands of times ..but its risky because sometimes a so called pro will do a crappy job or rush it, and they are expensive..

Yeah, that is going to take some work............and a lot of patience and time. The carpet can be made to fit, sometimes a little extra padding can help along with a hair dryer (don't use too much heat, it will melt the carpet). As your picture shows, it comes up short on the firewall which is why I ordered mine "untrimmed" so I had extra material. It's not visible in the pic but the carpet goes up to the heater box on the bottom and then up and around the right side of it. I spent days getting it to fit the way I wanted. Mine is also a 75....... Monza.
