New Monza being released

Postby 75Monz » Tue Mar 19, 2019 5:10 pm

Happened across this, GM is planning on selling a new Monza, only in China by the sound of it though. Not sure what it reminds me of out of their current line-up.

I would think it falls close to the Chevrolet Cruze.

Bastardizing another nameplate, just like the last-generation Nova and LeMans.

If I were a betting man, I would bet they wouldn't recycle the Vega name....I could be wrong though.

Looks a lot like the 2019 Malibu to me as far as style. I have a Cruze, which looks a bit smaller than the proposed Monza to me, but I see in the article they do compare it to the Cruze and it is very similar in size. Kind of like a Cruze with Malibu styling...

It always bugs me when they do stuff like this, since I was brought up on the idea that 4 doors equals a grocery getter. Just like Dodge re-doing the Charger as a 4 door
If your going to re-use a name, at least try to retro the original. Not many original ideas anymore seems like. Probably a little irony with that since Monza was sort of Robbed from earlier times, lol.

I think with a few modifications it might actually work.

I have had that thought (I'm sure we all have) for quite a while. I'd like to see an LS version with the 6 spd., and a twin turbo cadillac v6, and the 2.0 turbo. AWD? Keep it small, light and screaming fast! Something that about the size of the Kia Stinger but with a modified actual Monza style and some FATT sneakers underneath. Someone on this site should be at the Drawing Board to do it right! Could bring some real value to the few original Monza's left.

It seems to me...

The way I remember the Monza, not as a Corvair but as an H-Body 75 2+2 and on with strong purposeful Italian European designed influence. Most of the new cars today borrow their styling from kitchen appliances and no telling what else. It's like driving a stealthy looking vacuum cleaner. It just sucks (excuse the pun) that these designers don't have half the creativity that came booming out of the fifties and blew the doors off the sixties like the Stingray, the XKE, and the Challenger/Cuda. I'm not saying repeat history but please, they could do better.
