Seat width

Postby cjbiagi » Sat Oct 05, 2019 10:43 am

Does anyone have access to measure the width of 1977 - 81 Camaro front seats? I am getting my front drivers seat recovered and I have heard that you can use Camaro seat foam for the Deluxe interior. I am trying to make sure they are not wider than Monza seats. My seat bottom measures about 18" from piping to piping, about 19 1/2" overall width. The seat back measures about 19 1/2" piping to piping and about 20" overall. This is measured at the widest point.

Clyde

I know if your car has the Delux interior, they are the same seats as a Camaro Base interior

Is the base seat of the 2nd. Gen. Camaro a high back type?
Looks like we're on the same project..seats.. I spoke with an upholsterer who told me to go ahead and dissassemble the seats and rust prep the frames, source the foam and covers, and his price would be much cheaper to assemble the seats. One of the differences in the H body seat and the Camaro seat is the way that the seat rail attaches to the seat. The attachment points are at different widths.

You might be able to call American Cushion Industries and see if they have the dimensional data for the reproduction foam they make @

I have Camaro seats in my 1976 Monza 2+2 , I forgot the year but the driver side has a 3 button electric adjustments which is very nice, however the seat are so wide, that I have to open the door to get at the buttons and the armrest is touching the seat back, so my guess is about 1 - 1½ inch wider than stock Monza seats.

Yeah, while some folks have said the 77-81 Camaro with Deluxe seats are the same, I am tending to believe that they are a little wider. I am only concerned about the foam, I have new seat material purchased from SMS auto fabrics and am having a upholsterer redo it so I guess I am going to have to have him do his best with the foam situation. I am sure they must deal with this situation every day so we'll see...........

When I redid my seats I sent my old covers out and had new covers made ..I used the old foam and puffed them back out using steam and added some foam to the lumbar area .. I put Camaro springs in and they are def bigger than the the vega springs but worked great..I got a couple little puckers but im happy.

Looking at the pic of the seats above, notice the tops of the highback area. It appears that the seats in the picture, the chair backs..have a flatter peak at the top than the shape of the Vega seats. Someone had mentioned that Cobalt or Pontiac G5 seats would fit. I'm heading out to measure a set this morning.

Actually these are Vega seats from my 75 Cosworth..I had them made by a company in Massachusetts who I sent my old nearly mint seats covers to, they did offer Vega seat covers based on my covers for sale on their website but have since gone out of business..
