door locks

Postby monzacoupe » Wed Jun 03, 2020 11:33 am

Hi all, can anyone tell me how/where to lubricate the door lock mechanism so I don't break my key off when trying to unlock the door? The driver's side is REALLY stiff locking and unlocking

Try shooting some Fluid Film or whatever penetrating oil u like in here onto the latch mechanism inside the door. May have to remove door panel to lube it better if that doesnt work.

I think you need to remove your door panel and lub the linkage and lock cylinder

I don't believe there is much friction in the linkage.
Start by using a spray lube in the lock cylinder. Carefully use the key to work the lube into the lock cylinder.
If that doesn't do the trick then you should remove the door latch mechanism from the door and give it a thorough cleaning before re-lubing it. The old grease tends to dry out and gum things up. I did this on my Nova and it was worth every bit of the effort.
