copper zinc brake line

Postby chevyart » Sun Jan 09, 2022 4:06 pm

anyone have any good or bad reviews of copper zinc brake lines. my buddy just did his new built drag truck with all new lines and had around 7 leaky connections. all the parts(blocks, calipers hoses MC etc) were all new and he still had all these leaks. double flares were used everywhere. any ideas? thanks Art

Are you making your own flares? It may be a problem with the flaring tool. I would try another one, you can rent these for free from many auto parts stores.

thanks cj. yes, my buddy is making all his own flares(his buddy, a pro mechanic is actually doing them). i suspect he is tightening the tool too much on the second part of the flare process. i just dont know anything about this material other than that it could be a little soft. Art

I would think soft would be good. A hard line would be brittle and possibly tear / split when flaring.

I know it is much harder to flare stainless lines, the ones you are using are fine, I suspect it's something with the tool.

If you are using this type of flare tool, check the tang and surface on the round mandrel. The tang could be bent, the flare surface could be messed up, or a combination of both.
