Shipping problems

Postby sirrick4 » Thu Feb 10, 2022 7:05 pm

G'day everyone. I just tried to order a new fuel pump kit for my Monza on Ebay. The order was cancelled due to USPS apparently not shipping to Australia at the moment. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get around this problem? Thanks in advance.

Shipping to Australia is nearly impossible. I managed to send something there about a month ago, only option was USPS Express for $92 for a small part and it took over a month to get there. Apparently Australia has some very strict shipping into the country because of Covid. Options are extremely limited and nobody wants to go through the hassle and expense of shipping there.

Thanks Clyde.
Well that creates a bit of a problem. Who invited covid to the party anyhow? I guess I'll have to try and find something here that fits. Any thoughts on running a fuel injection pump with a pressure regulator straight after it?
Hey Doug, how come you have problems shipping to PR? I thought it was part of the US.

This may not be of relevance, but years ago the tank mounted pump in my Vega died at an autocross. I bought a cheap generic TRW pump and mounted it under the hood and it managed to pull fuel. I later relocated it down near the tank where it worked fine until I parked the car. It pulled through the original pump just fine.

I think there are in-tank pumps available - maybe Holley or Aeromotive - that have a regulator at the pump and don't need a return line. I'm not sure if there are ones available for carbureted applications, though.

I mentioned the universal pump because of the dilemma I was in. On an airstrip 50 miles from home, and I didn't have the tools, (or the desire), to drop the tank. I tried that TRW thing, and was surprised it worked as well as it did!

I used a higher pressure in tank pump, and then under the hood I installed a pressure gauge and a pressure regulator, no return line. Its been running fine for nearly a year now.

Also tried two in line holley fuel pumps for carbs, but they are meant for "gravity feed". They work for a few days but tend to cavitate and fail quickly.

You might check your social circles and see if any friends of friends are flight crew on Quantas. If so you could amazon overnight to their hotel on their next layover and they could hand carry it back to you.

Hi Rick,

I use a shipping forwarder for these kind of issues. Like MyUS.com. You can send your goods there and they forward it to your destination. I'm pretty sure you can choose whatever carrier you want, never had issues with them. Best regards, Mike

G'day Mike. There's a thought, I never knew about that. I'll give them a go next time.
I found out what the problem is. I pulled the sender out of the tank and checked all the connections. Turns out that the pump and fuel level wires are held onto the terminals by a type of press on spring washer on the inside of the tank. The holes are sealed by plastic washers and the fuel pump washer was broken which allowed the fitting to become loose. It was a bad contact that was causing the problem. I ended up getting a brass machine screw and some O rings and cut and filed the screw down to size. I then fitted that instead of the old terminal. Success! It now works a treat.
Thanks for all your suggestions everyone.
