Closing hood

Is it normal to have slam the hood on a Vega to make it latch? Or should dropping the hood allow it to latch? Mine won't latch unless I really push it down while it's dropping.. other than that it's lined up properly.

All of the Vegas I've had only needed a drop to close. If there is no adjustment on the latch, shim the link on the hood.
