Drivers door not shutting right??

Postby fas141 » Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:47 pm

1977 Monza - Not sure what is binding, but the door will not close all the way. It closes easily to about 4-5" of shut and then you have to push (hard) on the door and it still will not latch up. Fender and door look like they are mounted properly, door does not sag and is not loose (able to lift up and down). I am going to guess hinges but nothing seems bad or broken?? anyone ever run into this? Thanks.

Have you tried checking the door latches in the door and on the B pillar to make sure they are tight? If the fitting on the B pillar has moved or is loose that could be your problem

The door actually will not make it that far to even latch. Comes up about 6" short.. and by that I mean the door swings easy then stops like it is binding. You have to get some weight behind the door and push it to lock into place.

If the door is not physically hitting anything it pretty much has to be in the hinges. I do make a replacement hinge pin/bushing kit if you need it as NOS pins are pretty much non existent. cjbiagi@yahoo.com

As Clyde says, it might be the hinges. Have you checked the spring loaded door cam? It's located just under the top hinge. If that is rusted and jammed that could be your problem. To get at it properly you will need to take the door off anyhow. If you open and close the door you can see if it is moving or not.

Thanks guys, I'll check into the hinges better, maybe take the door off. I'll let you know. Just waiting for better weather.

Once you take the doors off you pretty much will destroy the pins and most likely the bushings are worn. Just sayin...........LOL
