Body by Fisher sill tag?

Postby BloFish » Fri Mar 11, 2022 12:27 pm

I have noticed that some Vega’s ‘71-‘73 have no sill tag/emblem, while others have one on the sill plate and yet others have one screwed onto the sill frame. What’s up with that?

I think 71's may have had it on the body, later years it was on the sill plate. Part number for 71 is unique.

I have seen them all three ways. There seems to be no rhyme or reason.

Many of the tags were a self adhesive attachment. So, it's possible some fell off at some point. That could account for why some cars you saw had none. The sills that were designed for a Fisher plate had a indentation on the metal. I have restored dozens of sets over the years, all of them had the Fisher tag and I would install new ones.

There were two 1973 Vegas on BaT and both of those had screw on tags that were not on the sill plate. :?

Here is a link to the National Parts Depot website page where the adhesive version of the Body by Fisher emblem can be found.

Thanks for the link. I’m still trying to solve the mystery as to why there are three different versions of this tag on ‘71-‘73 Vegas.

GM does many design changes year to year. Some make sense and some don't, who knows why? For example the diameter of the gas caps changed on Monza's after 77 or so. Early ones are 3 3/4" and later ones are 4 1/4". This not only requires a different gas cap but a different quarter panel as well. Why? LOL
