1972 Vega - Heat and A/C vacuum lines - where?

Postby cliffsgt » Tue Aug 23, 2022 4:13 pm

1972 Vega - I’ve a Vega with A/C and I’m swapping out my heater core. Got rid of the A/C part. Got the heater core out but noticed that there is a vacuum line that goes forward and out the firewall and under the hood. I’ve no idea where to hook-up the vacuum line. I believe this vacuum line controls the opening and closing of the ‘doors’ in the ‘box’ that the heater core is in. I’m considering just hooking it up to one of the ‘ports’ coming off the intake manifold but I’m suspicious that is not correct.
Can anyone give me suggestions as to where it should hook it up to?
Thanks!

With ac, that vacuum line going forward should go to a small vacuum tank that stores vacuum mounted on the passenger fender well and from there it goes to a non ported vacuum nipple at base of carb, but you have a Weber DCOE that does not have that vacuum nipple, and that is a problem.
Hope that helps some, but that’s how it works.

Thanks for the response.
Ahh, so that's how it's suppose to run. Good to know.
". . . to a small vacuum tank on pass fender," yeah, don't have that 'tank' anymore either.
Well, you are correct about the motor running a Weber DCOE. Not sure where I'm going to run it.
I guess I'll try running it to the manifold and see what happens - unless you know already that it'd be a bad idea.
What do you think?

Try it, won’t hurt anything, if manifold vacuum is stable and not fluttering, your AC/ heater controls will work most of the time except at WOT.
Aftermarket vacuum tanks are available, and out of the junk yard on most AC cars, my k20 and 944 have one.

OK, I'll try it - but I think my vacuum does flutter due to the after market cam.
I can make a trip to the junkyard to secure a vacuum tank so I think I'll see about doing that.
Thanks a bunch!
