:?: Light Covers

Postby 75_2+2 » Wed Jun 28, 2006 1:46 pm

Here is a question for everybody. I was wondering if there are any covers to protect the headlights and the turn signal lights on the front of a monza. Something made out of plexiglass or similar that would act like a rock guard for the lights where the light could still shine through so you could still use them at night without taking them off the car. My car came with two broken turn signal lamps. I found a replacement for one, but not the other. The one has been hard enough to find, so I would like to protect it so it will not break again.

Do I have to make something to do this? How would I do that? Anybody happen to have a picture of what they got on their own car that shows this?

headlight cover

I made a template for reference and had a pair of headlight covers made out of 3/16" dark tinted Lexan. Look great but fairly expensive to custom-make(approx $140).

So exactly how did you make the template so you would get the right measurements? Also how did you mount them. I used to have a pair of smoke tinted covers and really liked the look.

I made my headlight covers out of clear lexan and covered them with window tinting. They are held in place with velcro.

headlight covers

Made a template from cardboard for each opening(each side is slightly different).Template uses to cut out Lexan. I ended up using plastic brackets that hold kitchen cabinet shelves at various heights. The L-shaped brackets are approx. 3/4" by 1/2". Original two-sided tape attachment proved ineffective and they are now held in place with a single screw. Covers are velcroed to brackets which is fairly effective...o.k. for around town...don't know if I'd trust them at high-speed.

Ron,
Don't I recall you saying that your covers fit flat against the headlights? Its sure not obvious in the pics. They don't follow the contour of the front end. That would make them a ton easier to fabricate as well.

Cardboard templates. I never even thought of that. That is a good idea. Thanks. This gets me started.

I didn't think that Dobi was still around. Do they still make h-body stuff?

Darrel, you are correct. With the black buckets around the headlights you don't notice the covers only cover the headlights until you get close. The plastic headlight trim pieces make perfect templates. :)
