How it came to be..............

Postby HI WINDING MONZA » Sun Jul 02, 2006 10:23 pm

In 1998, I competed in Modified trophy class at ESTA dragstrip in Cicero Ny for the whole season. I was the only " Knuckelhead" that was running a 4 cylinder and the only one running a stick car in that class. A guy named Mike King started a Website for the track and was a announcer occasionly from time to time on race day. I guess he liked my 7000+ rpm ear piercing burnouts and came out with the name " Hi Winding Doug Butler" . I accutaly held 1st place in points for a month early on, and finished in 4th for the year. The season lasted from April to October every Sunday morning. Most of the time, other racers would use this class as a practice class so there was a variety of cars running in the class with us regulars. It was great because I had them standing, cheering in the stands as I beat 7 and 10 second cars! I also had a drought when I was out in the first round for 13 straight weeks but I and the Monza kept showing up week after week ready to race. I worked nights and had to get to the track right after work and sometimes work again the same night! It was hard but it was fun and worth it. Doug in Az 8)

Hiya Doug, don't know you, but I race there still! Been going there on and off since 1974! Vern and Rolland still own it. A few of my pictures were taken there. :burn:
