broken rear brake tabs adjuster on 74 vega

Postby 1974 Vega GT » Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:10 pm

Hello members of this site, this my first time here. I'm excited to here to interact with other Vega, Monza drivers and others.
I have a stock rear end on my 74 Vega. I have tried everything gone everywhere looking for replacements or maybe something used. The noise when stopping and annoying let alone unsafe. Can someone please advise or help. Thanks in advance

I'm having difficulty understanding exactly what you are describing, a picture would help. Posting a picture here isn't easy for a new poster because it has to be no larger than 256K. If you don't have a way to change the size you can send it to me and I will post it in this thread, my email is dick.baumhauer@gmail.com

We want to help you in making your car safe to drive.

He needs new adjusters and the adjusting tool. The parts are discontinued. The tool is below. The adjusters listed have no picture. I believe they are correct. The fitment chart indicates they fit a 75 monza (same as vega) but not 76 and up monza which is correct but I would contact the seller for a picture or other confirmation.

Hello everyone, and apologizes for not a responding sooner. I took the car LES SCHWAB. They give FREE brake inspections. This is what they found."On test drive noticed brake pedal is low and parking brake is out of adjustment. Upon inspection of the brakes found rear drums are out of adjustment. But the brake adjuster is broken on both sides, due to rear brakes being out of adjustment. The front brakes are being overworked and are squeaking. Rear brake adjusters are RECOMMENDED to be replaced so the brakes can be properly adjusted and then the front brake squeak can be addressed. Rear brake adjusters are no longer available through our vendors" Hopefully this helps ? I can possibly take a picture and post it so you can see the part that's broken.

Thanks, Dick for help, if I can't post it on this site I'll email you, Michael :D

Just so you are aware Michael, my computer will be down for a week starting Wednesday evening. If you email the picture to me it may not be posted here right away but it will be after things are back to normal next week.

No problem, I can wait till your back in action. I really appreciate the help. Just want to take care of this issue the correct way, hopefully the first time. :th:
My Vega is 1974 GT hatchback. all stock w/bbl excellent running condition. I ran across it last rear. Bought it from the original owner at a unbelievable price. I want to leave this one stock. I've been modifying Vegas for years but over the years never got too involved with the rear end and braking system. Hopefully one day I can make that transition with the BIG BOY'S to the posse world  and do it right.
thanks for the time, have a good one

I've asked some Cosworth owners to check their inventory for '75 brake parts since they are the same as the '74 Vega's. Michael, where are you located?

Michael,

I'm close to you in Elk Grove. I have a 78 Monza Spyder that I am restoring and just acquired a 1977 Buick Sky Hawk parts car. I have a good mechanical knowledge on these H-Bodies and can help you with your car. Keep me as a local resource. I have a shop with a lift if you need it.
