yeah i am going to think of something. some kind of girdle. probably buy a stock 10 bolt rear end cover gasket and scetch out the ring and cut a peice out of steel with a band saw and then use that to start the project. once the snow starts going away im gonna bring the car in the garage and probably take the rear end out of it. maybe do some measurements of where it sits right now and check the pinion angle and figure out how the arm is going to sit in it. but as i read the torque arm will help with the way the car handles as well..

I like the idea of using the upper mounts... Good one Dwight.

the only problem i see with that is you would have to make the UCA's solid somehow. either weld up the home made torque arm on the UCA mounts possibly weld on the same style mounts on the bottom of the rear end and make something out of that.

do they make a torque arm mount for a 12 bolt? or just the 9'' ford?

also i am not sure about mounting it to the axel tubes. if i launched hard would it twist the axel tubes? but eithe rway if i welded on thick mounts at the bottom of the axel tube. and mount the TA next to the pinion/yoke.

It's a grainy copy of a photo from a magazine, but this is the torque arm Roush used for the Bob Bondurant school Mustangs.

So maybe you're right. 1/4 plate between the housing and the cover... I could see that working...

Well, I have made a torque arm for a non torque arm rearaxle, but it is difficult to explain, I went off the center housing with a clamp on style bracket, also what you have to realize is that there is not a whole lot of room in the vega trans tunnels.

I could see the mounts like behind the cover work, but it means alot of metal and brackets, I dont know if weight is your concerne but I would try to build it similar as a stock setup.

It will need to be strong at the housing end, I have broken few stock arms, that are made out of the stamped steel.

The easiest way is to replace your rear axle with a torque arm style axle, but that limits you to 7,5 inch ten bolt.

Let me see if I can find a picture of the axle that I did.

Regards,

Jon.

im not too concerned with weight. my car fully dressed with a full tank of gas(16gal) weighs 2651 on digital scales. the torque arm setup that jegs has probably only weighs 15-20lbs and the bracket i plan on making...say it weighs 30lbs my car has a stock steel hood on it so i could run a fiberglass hood and take out the speakers and amp in the back and it would make up for it.
