Well, I have made a torque arm for a non torque arm rearaxle, but it is difficult to explain, I went off the center housing with a clamp on style bracket, also what you have to realize is that there is not a whole lot of room in the vega trans tunnels.
I could see the mounts like behind the cover work, but it means alot of metal and brackets, I dont know if weight is your concerne but I would try to build it similar as a stock setup.
It will need to be strong at the housing end, I have broken few stock arms, that are made out of the stamped steel.
The easiest way is to replace your rear axle with a torque arm style axle, but that limits you to 7,5 inch ten bolt.
Let me see if I can find a picture of the axle that I did.

Jon.
