how big of a tire can you fit on a stock suspension stock fender 76 vega hatchback?

Here's a link to where it talks about it in the H-body FAQ. Not so much for the Vega. I think. So take it with a grain of salt...

I went off of this and bought 8.5" rear wheels and they are HUGE! The rims go out the the edge of the fender. I think they are going to be too big. We'll see.

I have 15x7 monte ss wheels with 235/60 on the rear of my wagon with no problems

I have 255/60r15 26 inch tall about 9 inches wide on my 77 vega on 15x7 rally wheels.They clear but no extra room.Without cutting nothing taller will fit [front to back in wheel well]mine are 3.75 offset.
