Front spindles

Postby mad max motorsports » Thu May 17, 2007 4:55 pm

I know there are conversions to use the 2wd S10 spindles with 5 lugs.

What about spindles from Xtreme (sp?) S10's.
Or how about "drop" (2inch) spindles?

Just used stock S10 brakes or some aftermarket setup (Bear, wilwood, etc)?

I'm not sure if all S10 spindles work. Mainly unsure about the newer versions. The 2" drop spindles should work too if you've got some stiffer springs to keep from bottoming out... I have heard of some guys getting aftermarket brakes for the S10 spindles. I figured I'd start with the stock setup (S10 brakes) and go from there in a couple years if it seems inadequates.

I am pretty sure that all 2wd s10 spindles will work up until they switched to calling it the colorado, I believe 2002.
I am not sure if there are any differences between a normal s10 and an extreme. Wasnt the extreme just an appearance package? Maybe a sportier spring?....Idont think that GM would make a seperate spindle just for that.

The 2 inch drop spindles would be scary low IMHO, My car (monza) right now with stock spindles sit about 5 inches from the ground in the front. I didnt relalize how low it was until I got it off the jack stands.

Would be cool for a road racer or top speed car....but a street car would never live going over rail road tracks.

God bless

I have the 2" S-10 drop spindles from Belltech. You can see in my avatar pic how low the car sits (and it's not because my 30lb daughter is sitting on the hood). I have the stiffest springs (V8 w/AC). I get some tire rubbing just pushing the car around by hand but my alignment is crap right now.

I might have to swap back to regular S10 spindles once I get the car driving again, or at least get smaller tires--those are 225/50R16 on 16x7.5 rims.

On the Xtreme spindles: The Xtreme and SS have the "ZQ8" suspension option (which was also available by itself without the body effects etc, like on my truck). If you believe this link: http://www.s10planet.com/forum/archive/ ... t-239.html
then the spindles are the same on all S-10s and the drop is achieved through the spring/shock combo.

I'm pretty sure the 98+ have improved brakes and they might have slightly different spindles but the geometry should be the same.

Thanks for the information.
Sounds like with my planned body changes (if I can find them) the 2" drop spindles would be too much.

Sounds like most here are using factory springs, are aftermarket springs available for H-bodies?

Any one know the spring rates of the available springs factory and aftermarket?

Thanks

It looks like the coupes have more room in the front for ground clearance.

I dunno if its the air dam on my spyder or what but it looks a lot lower than that....I also still only have the factory L4 or V6 springs....with an SBC though.

God bless
