Air Shocks

Postby Buscop » Wed Jun 27, 2007 7:08 pm

Anyone know of an Air shock that fits the rear of our cars? A '79 Wagon to be exact. Sometimes shocks listed for other models fit ours...I want to get a bit of lift on the rear. 8)

But, don't you run the risk of cracking the sheet metal like Nika's Monza? From what I understand you're saying, you want to lift your car with the shock mount. Which is putting the weight of the vehicle on a part of the car that wasn't made to hold the vehicle weight. Does what I'm saying make sense? I mean if you're lifting the vehicle with the shock its going to be carrying weight all the time, right?

I'd have to agree with Roger. A better way would be coil spacers , taller springs, or even air bags in the springs.

Ya know, that's what always bothered me about coilovers (for the front) and why I never got them.

With the traditional setup, the spring carries most of the weight and distributes it in a circle on the lower A-arm.

With a coilover, the spring sits on the shock body, so it seems like all the weight ends up concentrated on the small area where the shock mounts to the lower A-arm. Is that right? Anyone running coilovers?

(sorry for the threadjack but the original question seemed satisfied)

I am working on the adapters to install true air springs on these cars and have them just about done. Waiting on the final fitment and we are using single air lines to each spring right now just like air shocks but the springs will be more compliant nad give a better handling and ride.
As for using air shock per se I would not on these cars as I ahd to pass up 3 Monzas because of that reason, the rear ends were trashed..
