S-10 spindle/brake swap

Postby 409Monza » Sat Jan 05, 2008 12:08 pm

Back in 1990 when I built my Monza, I took a new set of vented rotors and had them welded and re-drilled for 5 lug. I would now like to upgrade to the S-10 spindles for better braking. Im currently looking at a set off of a (2003) S-10 assemblies. Does anyone one know if all of the S-10 parts are the same for all years or is there a particular year that will work best with my swat on a 1980 monza with 15" wheels and SBC.

On brakes

Well as for me I have been hanging around the pro-touring,com forum and I am looking at the 98 up Blazer ZQ8 spindles, they have slide off rotors, use a sealed hub and bearing and I am working on adding ABS to my 77 Monza, yes ABS.
dont get me wrong its not some 3rd gen thing with yaw control or traction control.
Just plain old ABS.
I have also got a bolt in 4 link in its final phases of fabrication (trying to mod it so it will work for 75-76 floor and the 77-up floor) and its going to be geared for stock springs, coil overs and air ride.
My car is going to be setup on ShockWaves from Air Ride Technologies.
Oh and the ZQ spindles still fit with Bob Gumms adapters but I am working with Marcus at SC&C in PA for an aftermarket fabricated modular upper control arm so the upper adapter wont be used unless you use stock arms.
I am still working on better lowers and the use of the SC&C uppers move adjustments to top.
And the ZQ style brakes WILL work fine with the stock 76-up vented rotor mastercyl/prop valve.
I am also working on the proper offsets for using a 4wd s10 rear and getting spacing done to fit 17 in wheels in Monza wheel wells.
Oh and the ZQ will fit behind 14s and 15s from what i have been told,, dont know about 13s.

Do the ZQ8 spindle assemblies only come on the blazer and are they single or dual piston calipers.

S-10 spindles

I like to know that as well, would spindles off of 2000's S10 work on vega or Monza? Or do you need them to be from 80's 90's model years.

Any issues with installation, geometry, or alignment with your 2000 spindles. Are they single or dual piston? Thanks, Steve.

I've seen the list on Bob's site, http://www.v8monza.com/5LugList.htm , but at the top it says "Copyright December 21, 1998" and the list for spindles only goes to 1997. Is there an updated list anywhere?

I believe the ZQ8 is a Blazer only option as it has a bolt on caliper bracket and you can bolt on the Corvette one but I think to ZQ calipers are dual piston.
Ill do some checking and post back.

I used '99 Blazer front spindles and adapted C4 Corvette front brakes to them. There's a photo halfway down the page here:
