Tough to say. Even with given measurement of rear. You may just have to measure and figure it out. I was sweating on this same issue. It really helped to use the wheels I already had as a gauge. Sorry, I know thats not much help.

Maybe you could go to a good wheel tire place and they could help you figure this out. Isn't there a gauge that slips on the hub that can tell what tire size and backspacing will fit in the wheel well. Think I saw one in a magazine story where they were fitting big wheels and tires on a Mustang.

Shoot I forgot, My wheels are 15x8.5, backspacing was 4 1/2-4/34 I think, but I do not know the width of my rear. I can say my wheels do not tuck in the wheel well.

Again, if your really unsure, and do not want to buy a wheel then find it does not fit, try to go to a really good wheel tire shop that might have the gauge I mention.

mine is a 71. I think the rear is a Don Hardy 12-bolt.

yeah you may have to go with a 15x7.

Since that is kind of a standard wheel size, maybe you could borrow a wheel from someone to try on your car.

I don't recall his name, but the guy who has that green Vega with the airbags in the springs, his car runs really good on slicks and his tires tuck in nice.

Think several have said you dont need a really wide tire to run fast.

rustorbust, is who I was thinking of. Do a search to find the pictures of his car with the tires tucked nicely in the wheel well. I dont recall what rear he has but its all stock type suspension. His car runs times I think your looking to run.

I saw the wheel fitment gauge on tv. It works nice and they measured to fit big wheels and tires on a 70 Camaro.

I'm a member of LS1GTO and they have a program that someone started. Basically a guy bought a fender rolling tool and used it on his own car then rents it out. He ships it to the next guy who pays a small fee and shipping to the next guy and so on. We could do something like that with the wheel fitment tool. The rental fee can be accumulated to help with Hbody.org events.

Not a bad idea, Bill. Jegs has them for $90. Part #760-01201. Might find it somewhere else alittle less. I say one of the moderators buys one. Guy #2 pays the moderator $5-10 plus shipping. Guy #3 pays moderator $5-10 plus pays guy#2 for shipping. Once it's cost is paid off the moderator keeps the extra money for more tool rentals or expense of this site or whatever. Each person to use it pays the agreed amount to the moderator and shipping to the last guy. Sure would beat guessing what size wheel/tire to get. We all know our cars differ slightly so what works on one set up might not work on another.
