s10 master cylinder

Postby flracer » Sat Jan 26, 2008 6:12 pm

Looks like my 77 Vega GT is going to need a new m/c.Can get a rebuilt but thinking about aluminum s10 setup.

What all do i need to do this swap? What year m/c works?
Which pushrod works?

Car has prop valve already and the bigger back brakes [non power]stops great [just leaking].Just thinking of upgrading when i buy.

Thanks Richard

s 10 master cylinder

one of the posts from last year said to use a s-10 quick take up W/disk brakes and it is the one used before s-10 had anti lock brakes. It had an aluminum body with a plastic tank. This is the info I wrote into my little vega notebook, as I will be doing the same project real soon. I hope this is correct, and Im sure alot of the other guys will be chiming in with more info. Ill be watching myself in case I got it wrong or missed something Chevy Art
PS I dont know anything about the correct pushrod so we need help on that. come on in guys with the answers

I believe that the problem with that arises when you bolt them on...
Some of the S10's had the master cyl mounted at an angle with the resovior angled to compensate.

A full size pickup uses the same bolt pattern I believe but is mounted straight...i dunno about ALL the S10's though...just a thought.
Might cruise the Junkyards and take a peek at a few.

God bless

I don't think any S10's had the angled M/C's, from what I have seen, and that's what's on my 87 S10... a straight M/C. I do know that he G-body (Monte, Cutlass, etc.), they have the tilted reservoir that cannot be used.

I looked into the S10 M/C when doing mine, but decided against it because I didn't want a plastic tank under my hood. So I went with a 78 Caddy type, a nice big cast unit that looks right at home under my hood. I was able to use my pushrod from the stock Astre M/C.

I thought I remember something about the push rod being the wrong size for the clutch petal. Anybody else? I remember from way back someone having to weld up a new rod…

Cool, thanks for the lead. I don't need it for the Astre, but I need one for my Edsel.

MP brakes have adjustable push rods for Fords also. But do you think the one above would work on our cars. I'm planning on the s10 front brake change over this spring or summer.

A trip to the tractor parts/farm supply store and you could make that.
