Backing up tires lean

Front tires lean in when backing up. I did a search. But I don't think
I know what Im looking for.

How about some more info. Are they straight when going forward? Do they lean in at the top when backing up or are they toed in? You might beable to jack the front end up and see if something has too much play.

Are the wheels straight when you are backing up or are they turned. The wheels will tilt when turned depending upon how much caster is in the car.

Yes sorry. Yes the wheels are straight when backing up.
Yes lean in at the top or lean out at the buttom. Grins
I have not found any kind of play or anything lose.

I can see where alot of toe in would force alot of negative camber when backing up straight . Turning dont feel good at all.

It's hard to diagnose things like that properly online. Gotta be hands on. I'd guess your control arm bushings or bolts are either loose or just plain worn out. But it's a guess. Jack the whole front end up so the suspension is totally hanging free and see if you have any play anywhere. Then put the jack under the lower control arm and use a pry bar to see if there's any up and down movement at the ball joint.

Its the control arm bushings. They are just plain worn out.
I have a budy with a pit. I got him to back the car up so I could see what was happening. 1st the lower control arms would move.
That would cause toe in. The toe in would cause the negative camber. After about 4 feet I can see the frame flexing.

I got the car because of the killer engine. But now I,m hooked.
I,m thinking about replacing the front suspension with a corvair
cross member.

it must be i don,t think i,ve ever seen drumbrakes on a vega in the front LOL , not to mention a sparetire well LOL

YES, you are looking at the front end of a Corvair. Looks like a 1965 up model to me. (looks like my car) I do believe that the Corvair will be too wide to fit the Vega. If I could keep my Vair I'd have a LT1 stuck in the front end and replace the engine/transaxle with a G5 Vette rear. Sure would motivate............. 8) :lol:

Yes that front is a 1965. Yes it is way to wide. the cross member would have to be cut
Putting disk brakes on is easy...
