Thanks Dick!

Bassett makes the wheels I'm looking at in a 4" backspace, so I may just go with those since they will be an easier fitment, according to your example.

I may just buy one of each, and see how they fit. If it's not a crazy amount of custom work, I may try to get the originally proposed 3" backspace wheels to fit. Since I'm doing sheet metal work now, it'll be easier to deal with. I had planned on rolling the fenders anyway, so maybe I can work in a 1/2" or so flare into them, and I can get them to clear. I'm looking to get a similar stance as your & 122Vega's avatar pics. Maybe a little lower if I can flare the fenders correctly.

Thanks again for the quick reply! I'm glad this community still seems very active.

ya, but who wants skinny lil tires? unless they're on the front with big slicks on the back of course ...

i'm still pining for 205/60 13's personally .,. Federal Formoza makes a couple types if you can find'em but they're Blackwalls too.

Ok, I don`t know anything about fitting rims to axles so I need to to ask if the following rims would actually fit on my stock 75`Skyhawk which I understand has 13 inch with a 4 x 4.5 bolt pattern yes? (or is it 4 x 4.25 I forget..)?

Are there more issues than just the tire fitting in the wheel well and being able to rotate in all 3 axis etc when putting 14 inch rims with a similar bolt pattern onto 13 inch axles?

Looking at my car there certainly appears to be enough room in the wells to handle a larger diameter tire .. so would these fit?

` Measure 14 x 6 inches with 3 1/2 inch back space. 4 bolt unilug with 4 1/4 & 4 1/2 inch bolt circle. `

Is that an excessive amount of backspace which requires adapters or spacers or anything ?

Thanks, Todd

All h-bodys came with a 4x4 bolt pattern. I have 225 60 15s on the back of my Monza with no rubbing issues, and 215 60 14s on the front, the fronts do rub a bit but I am still suffering from old ball joints and a-arm bushings.

So I'm safe to get and install 4x4 14's all way round and can even go wider than 6 inch wide on the back ones right? Stock is 6 inch wide?

I'm thinking 225/60R14's in back and either 195 or205/60R14's in front.

Todd

Thanks, the Mirage has been a bunch of work! I have 7 inch S10 wheels on the back of it in the 15 inch size with plenty of clearance.

I would think that 14s on the front in those size should work quite well.

Has anyone been able to use 2nd gen Z-28 wheels like these? Specs I've found say they are 15X7 with 4.25" b/s. Probably too much backspacing to work.

I really like the 70's Z/28 steel 5-spoke wheels and have gathered up 8 of them and I have a plan. I'm thinking about modifying a set to get them to fit on my Vega wagon project. What I want to end up with is a pair of 6" wide ones for the front with around 3.5" to 3.75" BS and a pair of 8" for the rear with 4.5" to 4.75" BS. The simplest way to do this would be to carefully cut on a lathe the welds holding the centers into the hoops and then transfer the centers to another set of donor hoops(6" ones are easy to find, 8" would come from Corvette or GM truck rallys that I have lots of). This would allow the back spacing to be custom tailored to the car. The OEM trim rings for these wheels are only about an inch deep and only show the flat lip, so the rear ones might require a non-stock trim ring to hide the offset.
Another possibility would be to split the hoops on two pairs; each pair in a different places an inch apart, allowing the back halves to be swapped around to make one pair wider than the other when they're welded back together. This method would result in 4 wheels that look the same from the outside, but no doubt require spacers on the rear(or a wider than stock rear end) to take up the extra back space.

Those would probably work on the front, I currently have 17x7s with a 4.5" backspace. In the past I had some 15x7 Centerlines with a 4.87" backspace and a 7/16" spacer to move them out. The 4.25" will likely rub on the inside on the rear, though, 3.75 - 4" is about the most I would think you can use there, with any decent sized tire.

I thought Kermit(McCabe???) has a those wheels on it. I was looking at those for a while but the ones I kept finding were stupid expensive.

Yes, Tim has a full set of these wheels on Kermit. For tires he is running 205/60/15 on the front and 215/65/15 on the rear.

Hi,
I believe the 2nd gen cameros used 2 different backspacings one for front and other for rear . I think you need to find the correct backspaced rim for our cars
and you're good to go.
