I have found a good buy on a set of Cragar SS 15x8 and 15x7 wheels with 4 1/4 backspace
Does anyone see an issue with that much backspace?

I had 15 x 8 wheels with 4.00 BS and it was tight in the rear so 15x7 with 4.25 should work. I'm not sure about the front.

I am noticing a decline in the size options on 15" tires.
Would it be smarter to go with 16" wheels
I plan on buying a set of wheels this month while the ones I want are on sale.

16s are still not that bad yet, size options are even worse on 16"s, if you want the best selection, go 17"s. :? 8)

I have 16's on my car. Be careful if you go any larger, I have a 2" drop in the front of my car and had to run a small front tire on my car. 17's would be even worse on rubbing.

I didn't have any problem finding tires for 16". Many more options than a 15"

Do you just show your car or drive it some? I have six Goodyear Custom Steelgard BR70X13 tires that are in very good condition, a little dirty but no checking or cracking. These are the original OEM tire that came on the Cosworth. You would be advised not to drive on these at anymore than 15-20 mph as this brand type had ply separation problems. They are in a car I will be working on for the owner and are not mine but the owner asked me to see if there was any interest in them. One has 7/32 tread, the other five are 8/32 to 9/32. The owner is asking $50 a piece plus shipping.

Merle, what size 15" tires are you looking for? There are still a lot of choices for 15" tires. If you are concerned about future availability just get some extra's now. If properly stored in a cool, dry dark area they will last for a long time. I did a quick search on 15's and see a bunch out there.

I've searched through this thread, and used the search feature but am still missing the info i'm looking for. I have a 71 Vega Panel, and a set of 28x9.0x15 et drags for it. What wheel backspacing do i need to tuck these under the car. I sit them in there, they're close but really fit well. I'm scared to death about buying wheels, and them not fitting as im a huge budget builder, and buying the wrong wheels will kill me. Any help you guys could give me would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hard to make a recommendation without knowing how wide your rear end is. A 9" wide slick has a section width something in the order of 11.5" - 12"; that's tricky enough on a Vega, but the 28" height is more of a problem. If you have adjustable lower control arms you might get them in there, but if you don't by the time you jack it up high enough to clear the height of the tire they'll be hard into the leading edge of the wheel opening.

Hey there everyone. I just joined this page and have been looking into much of the tech it has to offer. But I have a few questions if anyone can answer them.
Let me start be telling you how I got here. Waaaaay back when (mid 80's) I bought my first car (a 1976 Buick Skyhawk). It had the 4-speed and a wooden steering wheel. I loved that car, and would probably still own it if it wasn't rear ended and the lower control arms wouln't have kept dropping off of it. Anyway, I had to get rid of it. Now I am looking to get another H-body Monza/Skyhawk and have been checking some things out.

There has been much talk in here about what tire/rim combos can be run,and there is a bunch of good information in this thread. But what I don't see is a starting point.
Through my investigations I have found that the original wheels for most of these cars is 6in wide and 13in round. But what is the original back spacing? This answer will give someone a starting point as to where their after market wheels back spacing should start at.
Another thing many people may not be thinking about is the change in speedo calibration when switching to a different tire/wheel combo. I have a list of what I've found that keeps you within stock specks for wheels/tire combos from OEM 13in wheels to 17in wheels. If anyone is interested I'll post what I've found.

Next question is is there any change in the spacing (from the point where the stock rotor face is) when installing S-10 front spindle/rotor set up and/or putting S-10 rear axles in the stock monza housing?

I know it is in this thread somewhere but can't find it. I am placing another summit order and want to buy http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-561-5465PS/ Summit Racing® Polished Drag-Thrust Wheels for the Monza. Anyone know off the top of their head the offset for FACTORY 75 Monza rear end and Front end? I think these will really set the car off with some nice WHITE LETTERS OUT BFG radial T/A's! Shoot me a text 903-328-7856 and I will finish placing my order so I can have them by Saturday. MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!

It is nice to be all excited about the Monza since the Vega wagon fell thru. $5k goes a long way on a daily driver that doesn't NEED the items I am buying but that only enhance it.

Well from what I've been researching it seems like 3.5 in. backspacing is the norm in all but extream cases. The wheels your looking at don't come with anything smaller then 4.0 in. which is too much. I've read where people have used 3.75 in backspacing and a narrow tire and were just clearing their fender wells. The only other wheel they have in that pattern is a 1.75 in. backspacing but that's on a 4 in. wide rim. The OEM rims at their smallest were 5 ins. Also take in mind when ordering any rim that the bolt pattern on s-10 conversion rotors and axles are 5x4.75. I say this because your link took me to a rim that had a 5x4.50 pattern.
So what you need to find is a 7in. rim ( I don't think they make 6in. rims anymore) with a 3.50 backspacing and a 5 x 4.75 bolt pattern.
You may also want to convert some of (especially the backspacing number) the numbers to milimeters as there are many wheel makers that go by the metric numbers.
Let me know if you need help figuring out tires for your car. I have a large list that will keep your OEM speedo honest.

Good Luck

Here's my Mirage with 215/60/14 on front and 225/60/15 on the rear.

Rear wheels are standard American Racing 15x7 S10 wheels with -3 offset.

Front wheels are American Eagle 14x5.5 with 3 inch backspace (I think).

Here is what I had on my old Monza:

Stock 7.5 Housing
Disc Front / Drum Rear
Stock width rear
15 x 8 inch wide rear rim
3.5" Rear rim backspacing
235/60-15

Stock V8 Springs (soon to be V6 no ac springs)
S10 drop Front spindle
15 x 4 Front rim size
1.5 " Front rim backspacing (I think)

Hope this helps

Also: these fit too (my other set)
