There wasn't really anything to see; from the side the car looked normal. Viewed from above, you could see a little bulge in the fender lip when compared to the front ones. I had tires as big as 235/60's on 15''x8'" wheels on the rear of this Vega, and the inner fender braces were intact.

OH I get it. You're saying just the lip gets bent out… Interesting idea. Maybe I should mess with my other idea too. Maybe I should just leave it, fabricate bulges and go big.

Ok I guess Iam going to explain more of what Iam wanting to know. Heres the specs again on the car 80 MONZA coupe was a 231 non a.c 4 speed car that swaped a v-8 into didn't switch front springs , now I have done the s-10 5 lug spindel swap everything when ok with the swap, I bought a set of steel daytona wheels 15x7x5 on 4.75 bolt pattern with a back spaceing of 4" now Iam looking at tires ,thinking of useing a 195-60-15 or a 195-65-15 or a 205-60-15 but leaning more to the 195-60 or 65-15 tires I think with either one of these I won't have issues with clearance with the fender or supension, the 60s are a 24.2 tall tire and the 65s are 25" tall tire they both have the same sidewall to sidewall width of 7.7 I think the 205-60-15 I might have a issue with as far as sidewall to sidewall of 8.1 with clearence. I know it's up to me of what I want the car to look like ( no 4x4 look or front end slamed look either or the ass end hi and the front end on the pavement. REMEMBER THIS IS A MONZA COUPE NOT A VEGA ) What do you guys think ?????????

I have found a set of wheels 15x6 and 15x7 is there any advantage to using a 15x8 over a 15x7?
8" is not available in a 5x 4.75 pattern in this wheel design.
Thoughts??

I would think that unless you are running some insanely wide tires that 7" should be fine.

look at the info for the tire you will be using. michelin and most tire manufacturers will give a spec for the minimum and maximum recomended rim width that is ok to use with the tire. if it says 6 to 8 inch rim width 7 will be fine. you dont want to go too narrow on the rim or the tire will get crowned(higher in the center than the sides) and you will only be running on the middle part of the tire and not getting the full contact patch on the pavement.

This may be a little off topic, but what is the largest diameter tire you can fit without trimming the rear quarters on a 73 Vega? Thought I saw it somewhere that someone was running 28" tires but can't find it again.

Thanx!

Thought I'd post what I want the look of my car to be. Using Hammerdown's pic (hope you don't mind), I photoshop'd some Camaro N90 wheels onto it. So, using the 225/50 R15 tires, this would be the look. I will be using the 15x7 Camaro N90 wheel in front, with 4.25" back space, and using the Monte Carlo SS 15x7 wheels in back, with 3.75" back space. I am doing it this way, because the Vega has 1" wider track in front, and this plan will place all the wheels even.

Nice photoshop, looks real good.
Have you purchased the wheels yet? I probably should not post this yet, only because I am not sure what I am doing. But, I bought a set of 4 Monte Carlo SS wheels, and just like you am thinking of using the Camaro wheels in front (not sure if the brakes I want to use will fit the Camaro wheels, as they just barely fit the Monte wheels).
So maybe if you get 4 of the Camaro wheels, we could trade 2 of them with each other. Since gold would clash with the rest of my car, I plan on refinishing them a different color. The gold on all of them looks perfect, but some of the clear is not as good, so I would send you the 2 best looking ones I have.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Looks like my 3 months of research for the "right" wheel is going to pay off.

LeRoy, thanks for the offer, but I am not ready to buy yet. I'm still in the paint and body stage right now, then I will hit the 5 lug conversion stage (which I will need wheel then). So I'm a little ways out still.

Also, I want to put a larger pic in my garage section if anyone is interested, but I don't know how to add it. It looks better than this smaller photo, wheels are not so "shiny".

Rob

EDIT: Thanks to LeRoy for the help, the pic is now in my garage section.

does the 1" wider spec apply to the monza as well? the N90 is one of my current choices for my 80 spyder. so should I be looking for monty wheels at 3.75 bs or camaro at 4.23 bd? is the monza a smaller or larger well opening? tire size decision is driving me crazy!
