one thing as a idea would be to make a post with a what works column and what doesnt work column in same post, because its a bit confusing reading the multiple post here as to what you need, spacers with this and then without, just offering a idea to help others. great job going thru the research. :D

I just picked up a whole Blazer 8.5" rear with disk brakes, let me know if any measurements are needed from it. The rotors supprised me at how big they are, 11 5/8" across!

So your saying the 4 bolt flange on the Vega housing has the same bolt patern as the backing plate/caliper bracket from the late '90's-2000 S-trucks...I was under the impression that was not the same. Thanks, Lorne

yes they do :D bolts right up, I am not sure on the 2wd drum axle ,, Yet, I can't get back to the bone yard till wed or thursday to know for surebut i do know for sure the 2wd disc brake axle is too short that was the confusion with the seal thought the seal was keepin me from getting the c-clip in but it was the axle being too short the drum axle seems to be the length I need (once again I'm not SURE ,Yet)

Hey LeRoy, Do you think you could weigh the components? I'm wondering what the difference is between the rotor and caliper weight to the Malibu Maxx setup I chose. I wanted a lighter solution but it would be good to know if it even is. I understand if it's too much trouble. Thanks man.

looks to be 22 pounds a side, the majority of which is the 16 pound rotor.Timmy

Just some info. There are disc brake kits that bolt on to the 78-88 gm 7.5 rear in malibus and monte carlos and such for about 250.00 bucks using a 11 inch rotor and GM single piston caliper. I don't know if it will work, just throwing it out there. I have a Dana 44 in my car that anything made for the 60s full size chevy cars will bolt right on to so I'm not that versed in the s10/vega stuff.
Any one can restore a car but, it takes a real man to cut one up.

Thanks for measuring stuff, Timmy. I'll really be able to use that. For the sake of documentation I'll weigh my parts and post them here as well. Thanks for a great thread.

Anything to help,But I am gonna have to update (the scale was off by 2 pounds :bang: )it is 20 pounds a side the factory cosworth stuff was 14 pounds and the factory axle shaft was right at 10 pounds and the 28 spline 5 lug axle was 13 pounds(but it was the too short disc brake axle) so it is a 9 pound per side increase I think it is worth it, if i ever get that serious about weight i will run gun drilled axles , that ought to be worth a couple of pounds Timmy

Hmmm, I just weighed mine, Rotor is 10 lbs. and caliper with pads as shown in pic is 5 lbs.

Also need to add the weight of the parking brake assembly, can't imagine it weighs too much as the main part is just a piece of stamped steel.
