Reinforcing The Area Where The Upper Control Arms Bolt Up

Postby Red77 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 8:36 pm

Since I plan on pushing this car hard while I own it, I'm concerned about the strength where the upper control arms bolt to the spring towers in the engine compartment.

My first idea is taking thick, hardened metal washers at least 2" wide and placing them under the nuts attaching the control arms to the spring tower. Theoretically this will spread the stress over a wider area, reducing a chance of cracking or breakage. My second idea is fabbing up some kind of repair / reinforcement kit similar to the ones offered for early Mustangs.

What do you guys think?

Your washer idea may help but I would weld them in place for sure. That will keep the holes from elongating.
