What 14" wheels fit Vega ?

Postby robert123 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 1:23 pm

Hey, what 14" steel/alum etc. factory or aftermarket rims fit a 1973 Vega?
Looking for more ground clearance.
Think 14x6 should fit the front.... and maybe 14x7-8 for the rear.
Looking for the type of car to check at the craigslist/wrecking yard etc.

Are all Monza's 13" rims??
Thanks a lot

Hardest part about finding wheels these days for stock Vega, is the 4 on 4" lug pattern. No modern cars using that pattern.

Found this reference to other vehicles using 4 on 4" pattern.

Crosley - all '39-'52
MG Midget

All Monza's used 13". Before buying wheels, check to make sure there are tires available in the sizes you're thinking about. Your best bet is to convert to 5-lug if you don't want 13".

Hey Robert,

Here's a few 14" 4 lug-4" wheels I got a hit for.
This is just AM. I would think they'd be others.

Those appear to be 4X100mm, not the same and these, especially in aluminum, can put the hurt on lugs. Steel wheels are a little more forgiving. You can also have your hubs and axles re-drilled 4X100. You would also need to find lugs with a larger knurl than stock. That's what I used on my Cosworth clone for my 15X8 wheels. A friend did the machine work and opened up the stock lug holes offset toward the inside to make up for the 1.6mm smaller diameter.

Hey Mike 4X100mm is about 1/16" smaller than our pattern, and our cars at 6" require a wheel that has very little offset those are about 1.25" inboard and clearance would be less "0" especially at a 7.0" wheel width with that width a negative offset would probably be better but I am not sure with a 7.0" wheel Harry (Yeah, and what Dick said)

Oops. Sorry Robert for the confusion. Thanks Dick/Harry for the correction/clarification.
:bang:
Funny that they have a metric and std bolt pattern so damn close. WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US???
I mean, a 1.6mm difference. Ugh.
AR even lists there std 4.5" & 4.75" bolt circle wheels as 114.3 and 120.7 respectively (it would seem more logical to list metric pattern in metric and std in std).

Tires are my favorite for this. They use 3 different units of measure in modern tire sizing. (mm, %/ratio, & inches).

Thanks guys for the helpful information.

Sooo, may have to keep the 13" for awhile.
Later, get a dana 60 rear end. And then, s-10 front (or redrill stock for 5-lug)... or
Easier and still strong ... remove stock hubs and redrill for (approx.) 4 x100mm... use some metric 14" rims.
4 inches or 4" = 102 mm

(FYI) 4 on 4 .......4x4" 15" rims
Came across this ad for 15 x 3.5 [skinnies] 4x4" (4 on 4)Centerline on craigslist.

(Here's the ad):
