Big bore low drag S10 swap calipers

Postby BadBowtie » Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:17 am

Does anyone have any input on these:

also talked about here:
http://s10racer.com/board/showthread.php?t=7299

Long story short they are low-drag, larger bore s10 calipers from a g-body.

I'm running a manual 7/8" bore master with stock s10 calipers and havent had any issues but
-is there a big difference with the "low drag" version?
-would this be a decent upgrade (ebay price on CPP calipers is ~90$)

I've been looking at them recently and I think they may be a nice "bolt on" upgrade to keep a 15" wheel size and get a bit more clamping force.

Looking for comments/opinions, bonus points if you're running them

I don't know how much of an improvement you'll see. I agree with one respondent:

"I didn't test any braking distances with these calipers, but most of the noticeable braking improvements will come from a quality brake pad."

I'd try a more aggressive friction first. Check out Porterfield-brakes.com. I use the R4-S material on my Miata for autocross, works well on the street, too.

If you decide to use those larger-bore calipers, you'll have to increase the size of the master, too.

Thanks, i'll definitely look into upgrading my pads before considering changing calipers etc.
Appreciate the input

I know its a little late to chine in on this, but I would not use the low drag calipers.the seals on the pistons for the low drag calipers are different from the standard ones causing the pistons to retract further into the caliper to reduced drag and heat. sounds good , EXCEPT you must use a step bore master. A stock master will not push the the caliper out far enough for effective breaking. their are several hot rod shops that sell over size calipers. be sure to mach piston size to mc bore size. I am working through this issue on my 76 2+2 now and will post results as soon as possible .
