Because of the way the rear springs mount (compared to the front double A arm) the amount is pretty linear with the amount of drop you want. So, remove the spring and measure the length, then simply measure 3" lower and cut the spring there. Removing 3" in length should provide 3" of drop. So, lets say the spring measures 15", measure the point where 12" is and make your cut. That is a pretty significant drop though by cutting the spring, you may find it is too short to stay in the spring pocket upon full extension of the shock. This could result in the spring falling out over a large bump or dip in the road. You may want to try removing a little less and see how things fit. Considering stock tires are about 23" - 24" I can understand how high it must sit.

John, Clyde brings up an excellent point, as an alternate solution try a 4X4 site or parts store and look for some limiting straps as they use them all the time for the same reason as well as to stop the travel before the drive line binds. Harry Here is a quick link I found for you. http://www.offroad-engineering.com/limiting-straps.html

You can also use shorter shocks since that is what limits the suspension travel

John, You must run with Frank Sloan who has the record for his class with a Cosworth Vega. Frank also has had passes at Bonneville.

Here's a couple shots of Frank's car, don't know if they are from El Mirage or Bonneville.

See Frank has the right size tires on his car. l'm pretty new at lakes racing and took advice of other folks instead of my own instinct. That's pretty much what my car looks like except higher in the rear. l'll try to post photos of my car with results of this week end. Hoping for 185.

Frank was at El Mirage and l spoke with him. Very nice guy with a beautiful Cosworth. The wind ended the meet. With new rear sup. l took it easy for my one pass went 131. Car went straight, but the wind got us.
