Because of the way the rear springs mount (compared to the front double A arm) the amount is pretty linear with the amount of drop you want. So, remove the spring and measure the length, then simply measure 3" lower and cut the spring there. Removing 3" in length should provide 3" of drop. So, lets say the spring measures 15", measure the point where 12" is and make your cut. That is a pretty significant drop though by cutting the spring, you may find it is too short to stay in the spring pocket upon full extension of the shock. This could result in the spring falling out over a large bump or dip in the road. You may want to try removing a little less and see how things fit. Considering stock tires are about 23" - 24" I can understand how high it must sit.
