1975 MONZA PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT

Postby thunder1road » Sat May 10, 2014 5:10 pm

What is the correct way to adjust these oddball brakes ?? I bought a 75 Monza that was stored for 20 years. I rebuilt all the brakes. No problem. But I cannot figure out how to adjust the parking brake mechanisms. They are not the typical GM star wheel adjusters. There is a bar between the drums with a slider that has some metal tabs that lock to ridges on the bar. I bought new adjuster mechanisms off ebay and they came with the adjuster plier tool. But I have no idea how to use the tool to adjust these brakes. The little tabs in the adjuster are very fragile and I think i should get some instruction before I experiment on them. What is the correct way to adjust these oddball brakes ??

set the bar so the drums fit. the adjustment is done by pulling up on the emergency brake handle. If the handle is out of adjustment due to the cables stretching there is a nut which can be adjusted under the car above the drive shaft at the end of the parking brake mechanism where the cables attach.
