76 Monza master cylinder question

Postby gunner » Thu Jul 10, 2014 1:05 pm

Can anyone tell me which reservoir on the master cylinder supplies the rear brakes on a 76 Monza. On most vehicles with a dual reservoir master cylinder the rear reservoir supplies the back and the front supplies the front. On the 76 Monza master cylinder the rear reservoir is much larger than the front which leads me to believe it supplies the front because the calipers use more brake fluid than a rear wheel cylinder to activate. Also the 76 brake line holes sizes are reverse compared to the 75. On the 76 Master cylinder the large brake line hole is in the front.

Gunner,

You're correct on all counts. The larger reservoir is for the extra volume the front disc caliper piston will use as the pads wear. The lines are opposite the earlier models.
