75 Vega Coupe Hatchback Frt Brake Conv

Postby vegadude57 » Sun Sep 07, 2014 7:39 pm

I'm getting ready to do a front suspension conversion using S10 spindles. I have search this forum for hours and gotten a lot of good info on this. I have also read and reread all of Bob Gumms pages. I still would like some guidance from someone who has actually and successfully done this conversation on a 75 Vega Hatchback like mine. I keep reading where GM changed a few things in 75. There seems to be some conflicting info out there. Anyone with a 75 willing to help a brother out?

What conflicting info have you seen? Any specific questions? It's a pretty straight forward swap following the procedures.

I have read that 75 you could use S10 ball joints on the upper and lowers thus not using the larger Monza joints on the lowers.

To use the S-10 ball joints you'll either have to use aftermarket control arms made for them or modify the OE arms to accept them. The S-10 lower ball joints have a much larger body, but UB Machine makes weld-in sleeves. The uppers have a larger bolt pattern but other members have had success in modifying the control arms.

If yours is a '75 you should already have the correct ball joints to use the V8Monza.com adapter sleeves to fit the S-10 spindles.

Thanks. That is where the confusion was. So are you saying that I can use ball joints from the 75 Vega or the S10 ball joints, upper and lower with the Gumm's adapter?

Hi,
You can use the vega ball joints and control arms with adapters on the s-10 spindles. The holes in the s-10 spindles are larger than the vega spindles.

Thanks, nic75vega! I notice you have a 75 Hatchback similar to mine. Anything else you can shine some light on for me? Have you changed rear ends? I am thinking about going to a complete S10 rear end and find the one with the 4:10 gears and just switch out the brackets etc. Thanks!

Hi Vegadude57,
I have a Monza 3.08 posi going into mine, and it will get the s-10 axles eventually.
