S10 spindle + Chevette rack=what tie rod?

Postby druggles85 » Thu Oct 23, 2014 3:34 pm

Hi all, new here. I've been searching, but can't find this piece of the puzzle. I know, slow steering and turning radius of a dump truck :th:
but whether it's right or wrong, I have a Chevette steering rack that I'm trying to connect to S10 spindles... I bought a tie rod end for a 4th gen F-body expecting that to fit. Threaded onto the inner tie rod end no problem but It's too large to fit through the spindle hole. I'd like to avoid buying a reamer if possible. Is there an off the shelf part that just fits?

I'm thinking about trying to get the spindles reamed out to fit the Camaro tie rods. It's just bothering me that I can't figure this one out... One yard I went to said the spindles from a 2.2 S10 use smaller tie rods than the ones with the 4.3 motor. I can't find any reference to this online, and can't find part numbers or anything to support this claim. Is it possible it's actually true?

Honestly This post is more of a bump :bump: Maybe somebody with a Chevette rack and stock spindles will notice and comment on what they used, Or maybe somebody with S10 spindles and stock steering will comment on whether or not the outer tie rods are the same taper. I'm just getting desperate and needy :)

I found the following:
S10 is 5/8-18
Chevette is M14x1.5
S10 Taper is 10 degrees

You need a custom coupler to go from 5/8-18 to M14x1.5.

Hope this helps.
