Rear Upper Control Arm Brackets-HELP!

Postby vegadude57 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 2:56 pm

Anyone have any idea/lead on where I can get new/good used, rear upper control arm brackets for 75 Vega? I am changing to a S10 rear end and both brackets kind of got butchered up in the removal process. I know Don Hardy used to sell them but no longer stocks them. I have googled these things to death! Any help?

This company makes a ford nine inch rear housing with stock like brackets on them for the vega, don't know if they sell them separately but they have them, give them a try.
Good luck

You could make some out of 1/4 inch plate steel, make a cardboard template first, transfer to the plate steel then cut and grind and bend and work your new pieces into shape, not saying it would be easy but very doable as I know I could do this if I had to.
You could rework your old ones too.
Hope this helps

Well I have searched the world so I am just going to make my own like some of you said. We have a couple of good steel suppliers here so I think I will just make them 1/4" and weld them up. The OE ones aren't that great anyway. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Call Don Hardy in Texas. 1-800-783-3774. From conversations with them, I know they have them. They have "barrel fulls of them behind some stuff. It's just too hard to get to them." Maybe you can sweet talk someone to go get them.

The only Vega's that only had a little rust were the ones still on the assembly line.

if that is true maybe a group buy would make it worth their time to dig them out.

I did call Hardy but no luck. I ended up making some templates and cut them out of 1/4" plate with a plasma cutter. Got everything lined up and after sticking the rearend under the car twice to make sure everything fit right my buddy is going to weld everything up Saturday. They look a little bulky but they are much more durable than the OE. One thing I can tell you for sure is that the S10 rearend is MUCH heavier than the stock Vega one!

So I made the brackets and had a local hot rod shop weld them. I put the rear end this morning and everything work great. The brackets look a little bulky but they are SOLID! I am using UMI Performance adjustable upper control arms.

Nice, You won't be breaking those, stronger is always better, I would use grade 8 bolts/nuts.
Got any pics under the car?
