S-10 spindle swap

Postby OldsStarfire » Thu Jul 09, 2015 4:43 pm

I'm collecting parts for an S-10 spindle swap. Do I want regular spindles or 2" drop spindles? I'll be using 21560R14 Tires.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff That tire calculates at 24 I/8" so right around stock height, so a 2" drop would really put you car "in the weeds". I think it would be hard to drive it on the street that low, but that would scream at the road course! So I would try a standard height spindle. Most of the cars (with the swap) at the Ohio Meet were standard height spindles as there was a discussion about this with a few newer board members and guests. Harry

You can see a few pictures in the links below, it depends on your tire size, engine and spring choice, the stiffer springs tend to keep the car riding high. I would probably start with the stock ones and let them settle (drive around for a while). Later IF you want it lower you can measure how much drop you need. You can generally get used stock spindles for cheap, sometimes even the aftermarket drop spindles pop up for sale.

Thanks guys. My car has 60 series tires on 13" rims now and sits way too low in my opinion. Although it handles great!

I guess I will try stock spindles first since they are cheaper anyway. I'm going with the control arm mods for S-10 ball joints. It amazing how much larger the S-10 ball joints are. NOS ones are cheap and plentiful and they have sealed rubber boots unlike many aftermarket ball joints that wear out super quickly.
