I have a 1977 Monza with A V8,which is also a back half car. I've read some of the posts and need to know the best shock for the front will be.its a street car mostly. Thanks

KYB's are what I run, the ones for a H body have the correct internal bump stop built in. Some guys are running 1st Gen Camaro shocks I believe. There are also shocks made by Ride-tech for H bodies but they are $125each. There are not a lot of options out there.

cji is right about the 1st gen. camaro(67-69) front shocks. look at the competition engineering(moroso) shocks, the are not real expensive, and are 3 way adjustable. and the only thing you probably have to do is to ream the hole on bottom of control arm a whisker to pass the shock through. probably jegs and summitt make this exact shock also(for camaro.) art

But do Camaro ones have the internal bump stop?

cj dont know the answer to that. is that bump stop really that important for a passenger car.? i could see it as a necessity if a car was doing wheelies and needed that feature. art

H bodies don't have a lot of suspension travel so it is possible to "top out" the suspension with a hard thunk. A external bumpstop could be added though with minimal work.

It's basically a rubber bumper that mounts to the top of the spring tower so that it contacts the bottom of the upper control arm when the suspension is in full extension position. It could also mount to the bottom of the upper control arm too if that is easier. You just have to look where the contact would be and install a bumper there. So, basically a rubber bumper between the upper control arm and the spring tower.

Would it be better go go with the S10 shock with a bump stop on the control arm? Considering the KYB-GR2 are pretty much the only ones for the Monza.. Are the s10 shocks a better ride..The car is a V8 car so it's heavy up front.

I have a pair of new OEM front shocks for the S10 ZQ8 suspension which was their ride and handling package. They have an operating range very similar to the Monza/Vega shocks but the body of the shock is somewhat larger in diameter requiring the opening of the lower control arm mount, $90 plus shipping.

Well my car came with air conditioning from the factory. so it came with a heavier front spring and I think the S10 shock will be a better choice to go with considering the S10 is heavier up front to begin with. The KYB 5450 seems like a good choice.

Didn't S10's come with V6's? I wouldn't think they would be heavier than a V8 Monza equally equipped.
